Sensex gained 878.85 points
Equities posted strong gains on Tuesday as investors cheered second quarter corporate earnings and SEBI's clarification on participatory notes.
BSE's Sensex opened firm and went on to touch an intra-day high of 18,542.41. It ended the day at 18,492.84, gaining 4.99 per cent or 878.85 points from the previous close.
BSE Midcap Index rose 4.14 per cent and Smallcap Index climbed 3.2 per cent. Market breadth showed 1016 advances and 165 declines on NSE, while BSE saw 2089 gainers and 658 losers
It was a grand closing for the Indian market today and the bulls are clearly in charge. The Sensex closed at 18492, up 878.85 points while Nifty closed at 5473, up 289 points from the previous close. The BSE Midcap Index was up 5% and Smallcap Index was up 3%. The market breadth was positive with advances at 1016 against declines of 165 on the NSE. It was gains across the board, with the BSE Capital Goods up 7%, the BSE Bankex up 5%, BSE Metal Index up 6.5%, BSE Realty Index up 6.7%, BSE FMCG Index and BSE Auto Index up 3% each and BSE IT index also up 0.7%.
